Do all Scots words that look like English mean the same thing?

Not at all! Many Scots words have different connotations, and some have different origins entirely. Beware in particular these 'faux amis':

burn 'stream'
cry 'call, name'
greet 'weep'
hog 'lamb'
hou 'why',
moose 'mouse'
speir 'consult, ask',
while 'until'
yuckie 'itchy'.
